Royal Jelly is the food of queen honeybees, hence the name. It’s a gelatinous milky‐white substance secreted by the glands of young nurse worker bees, which is used to feed and nurture their reigning queen so that she can be bigger, more fertile and live longer than all the other bees. Because of this, Royal Jelly has been used as a food and medicine for thousands of years and has a remarkable nutritional profile allowing it to be used as a tonic for general health and wellbeing.
Royal Jelly is a source of macronutrients – Royal Jelly contains around 60‐70% water, 10‐16% carbohydrates, 3‐6% lipids and 12‐15% protein,1 which are all used by the body for growth, maintenance and energy.
